he replied to all my new posts, and obviously doesnt understand them I dont want that to influence your replies, please reply to my post and ignore him
not to be mean, he just mixes up things
What if someone said that about your posts WoadWarrior? Do you imagine that your posts are always so not mixed up?

I can not judge this matter, but I found one of his remarks (about "which Christianity do you mean") very good; Christianity is and was pluriform, and your question about Christian sexual attitutes benefitted from this refining of the question.

I have not seen all his other replies, but if you are right, I think that you must have a little patience. After all, we're all here to learn from each other.

This being said, I always like the directness of your questions; you have the guts to admit what you don't know and to ask questions. Admitting ignorance is probably the greatest of all human virtues, and we have a right to blame people who do not admit what they do not know. But blaming people for just don't understanding things is, in my opinion, a bit unreasonable.

thank u , and I will be a little more patient, I try to read as any books as I can, i just got interested into this, but it is different to read actual peoples opinions, my age, and some of experts, thats hy I ask such straight questions, and dont think thats all I do I research on the web as well.

Iratus Maximus is not the one asking questions I am, I make a post and ask a question very important to me ,a nd it gets all mixed up, its hard to explain but it really dampened my spirits of getting my questions answered

This kind of thing is highly inappropriate Francis- don't start threads like this again. Comment on others' replies in threads or complain to the mods, but don't do this.
I have returned from re-enactment event and I found forum full of Woadwarrior's posts Confusedhock: I wonder what Iratus Maximus wrote?

I've just quickly read some of Woad's posts and I consider that they beside the point. :?

Maybe it would be good to reconsider creating new sub-forum for beginners and unexperienced...not only for Woadwarrior, of course. It should contain most important links to good topics on this forum and links to other valuable sites, books. Some sticky topics about basic roman military history, equipment etc. should be good too. I observe that same questions repeat several times in various topics and great people here are answering again and again the same...

...such a sub-forum might be a good starting navigator. So newbie should read these help topics first to find answers to basic questions on roman military quickly and easily. Other sub-forums will remain for more sophisticated discussions.

Or a Roman Army FAQ ?
FAQ sounds good.

How about "Romapedia"?

Or a search button that is better visible?
Or we could add something where you have to run a search before you add a new topic, like the filters on some of the other websites, when you want to ask a question, but then, that might take out the fun of just posting what your are thinking. Some of our newer people have years of experience as historians, and might feel a bit unhappy to have to join a novice forum. There are pros and cons to any answer. The best thing is to treat people like you want them to treat you. That doesn't always work either. Maybe we could limit new posters to one or two posts per day, until they understand how the forum works? there are lots of possibilities, and I suspect the admin will be looking at many of them.
Ave Caius,
perhaps due to my imperfect English you misunderstood my idea. In no way it was intended to separate newbie (beginner in roman military history, not somebody unfamilar with PC) but to help with orientation in tremendously extensive RAT forum with thousands of posts. Roman Army FAQ is perfect name for such an introductory sub-forum, something like a selection, or Best of.... Search is not solution to my idea.

So the idea is to gather the most frequent questions (tunic color, battle pictures etc.) to one sub-forum to start from. I had no intention to make any restriction - anybody can browse etc. as he wishes. So repeating same things again and again might be avoided and the newbie's life might be easier. And it might save time of nice people trying to answer and/or admonishing, too.

It would be also great if RAT members keep administrators advised with most valuable topics going straight to the point.
I think we have already start with something like that. See Artickels on the main site. Here, beside the Ritterling Project, are some interesting topics set into short artickels.

Otherwise maybe it would be interesting to make a index of the kind of threats we are talking about. Just one page with links to a lot of topics, sort by keywords, but I think it would be a good start to make the Search engine better visible.

Woadwarrior

am I really that bad?

Um i wouldnt consider my self a newbie
Francis, being considered a newbie is more about how someone acts, than how long you've been on a board, or how many posts you have. When a newbie learns to fit in to the community they've joined, and really starts contributing something productive to the discussions, they aren't a newbie anymore.

So as you give more thought and effort to your posts (your spelling is so much better than when you started, for example) and you bring out more ideas and points of your own, as opposed to asking basic or repetitive questions all the time, you will become more and more esteemed by the group.
