Hi,

Can someone help me identify where this cavalryman is from? The picture is on page 20 of the new Osprey "Roman Auxiliary Cavalryman AD 14- 193".

One thing that interests me here is the pommel, which looks like the model for the Deepeeka spatha?

Thanks and regards,

Caballo
That's easy Tongue . He's a very famous, but unknown cavalryman from Cologne.

And this is a detail shot of the sword:

IIRC this tombstone is of an "Unidentified" soldier. Possibly the name is missing.

Until the imagebase is back online That's all I can offer at the moment!

Regards,

(Jasper beat me to it by seconds!!)
Thanks!! Karma to both for speediness beyond the call of duty!

yes, imagebase. ubi est? Has there been an announcement about AWOL imagebase that I've missed?
Please get it back online before September when I start teaching again!

Well, there IS a message on the homepage of RA.com. Basically it is offline for technical reasons due to the host-move. However, just today I put the new version online for testing. Looks like there are some (major?) wrinkles to iron out, but it should be back online in a few weeks.
And I criticize my students for not reading the departmental noticeboard!!
Sorry!
Thanks for the info.
That's ok. FYI: the imagebase has been recast into a new form is online (here). The downside is that all records have to have their pictures reassigned and checked for garbage code introduced during the conversion.
5-10 minutes or so per record * some 230 records...

You'll see the records reappear one by one in the near future.
