A piece of pottery depicting a new form of gladiator clothing was recently found:

The Villa Borgherse mosaic shows gladiators fighting, and next to them those same winning gladiators after the fight, stripped to a jockstrap and waving their victory palms. Maybe that is what is depicted on this shard. There is also a statuette of what may be a female gladiator wearing a bikini bottom and waving something that looks like a palm frond, so perhaps this was a common post-contest practice.
