Could someone tell me when the folowing shoes are dated:

-Saalburg calcei. nr. 199 on Sarah Juniper's site: http://www.sarahjuniper.co.uk/roman.html

-Mainz calcei

Did the calcei from the 2nd century AD differ from those worn in the late 3rd, early 4th century?

The Saalburg 199 calcei is late 2nd to 3rd century and military. The same style as mine. I don't know about the Mainz calcei, but it looks very similar to the Saalburg in style.

Didn't late Romans wear a type of carpet slipper?

Do you know what kind (if any) calcei were worn in the first half of the second century AD?

I think for the 1st half of second century you would be better sticking to caligae due to a lack of evidence of anything else.

My "Roman Military Equipment" by B&C states that caliga went out of use by the 1st quarter of second, but does not state what replaced it. It does mention archaeological evidence from the Bonner Berg workshop to back that. Perhaps someone here knows something about that.
