I'm working cold and thanks for the tip
The finished shield, I was going for a Constantine era shield and it turned out pretty well it's heavier than expected and not entirely historically accurate (I cheated using nails and bolts to secure it) though I'm proud of my work either way
You can reduce weight by making it heavier in the centre and taper out so that the edges are thinner.
