I have started a new belt for my self I made the buckle and plate plus frogs for a Pugio for a friend in the late eightys. It has been my favorite of all the belt plates that have been found
. I decided to do it for myself No.48.
I will post the various stages of the build, and I have made the plate a little bigger as they are to scale in the book. The origonal is in the British Museum.
I have made the buckle from a solid piece of brass the hinge plate needed a bit more imagination as I had to remmember how I made it last time
will post as I go along
Regards Brennivs
Have made the hinge plates hear is its raw state,
The main body is bent round and taken to the edge of the decorated piece. I then put two rivets through to attach to beltthen put a thicker piece on top and used a single rivet to hold all the pieces together and soldered it all together, hope you see what I mean below.
Filed the shape into the extra brass and removed the excess material on the plate.
I have made all the belt plates 14 in all more than I need, the plates were tinned first before the punch work was done.
Any questions please ask
Regards Brennivs
This is the buckle and plate before decoration,
And the plate just about finished,
I am quite pleased with how the belt is takeing shape even if it is a lot of time and work to make each piece will post when a bit more is done.

Thank you very much Xorx
I have been busy with the frogs, I have copied from a Hod Hill find and in the British Museum,
It with a plate to show the next is the finished piece.
Next will be the Apron ,I am using Annaivs Daverzvs tombstone the top plate and small studs, but I like the Luna terminals.
Not finished but hope you can see the effect. the top plate I have used the pattern from the belt plates rather than leave it plain.
Regards Brennivs
So I have all the parts made just need to rivet to the belt,
Hope to have the belt finished, will post soon
Regards Brennivs
Started stud work on the apron
Then the finished item,
I finished riveting the belt plates on with the apron
Regards Brennivs
The other side of the belt,
The belt at full length
It has taken nearly a month to make, I was even doing the punch work in a hale storm
light was better outside. I hope you like again ask any questions I will try to help
Regards Brennivs
Opps forgot to mention the best way to make your components is make templates first,
These will help for scale before you make in metal.

with a few picks of simple kit needed also I will throw in the tinning part as well
but busy prepping for a couple of gigs so bare with me

Very nice work indeed Tony!
Crispvs
Very good. Who supplied the studs?
Thank you very much Crispvs
(if you see this I've pmd you) I had to put a bit thought into the manufacture, actually Uri from the your 14th is who I made it for before. Fabricivs the stud work is simple upholstery nails you can get various sizes, normally I would make each stud but since it was for me I was happy to do it this way. The only thing is the nail was hardend Soto I had to heat the nail up to soften it to bend it back on itself. Also you can silver the studs as they are elecroplate coated

Upholstry Nails, of course!
Would they need to be silvered as you can get them already nickel plated?
That is true but if want to blend them in with your belt plates like if you just tinned them then at least you have the option. Also the studs vary in size of the dome height and diameter, when I was looking some sizes where not done in nickel
but as ever I will be proved wrong
but luckily I wanted the thin straps on mine so they were ideal.
