The medieval Greeks did not want to call themselves with the term Greeks because the ancient Greeks believe in the twelve gods and they were not Christians. So in Byzantioum if you said that you are Greek this means that you were a paganist and not a Christian. This is why they call themselves "Romeos" Roman. In modern Greece you will be able to find in traditional songs and poems that the Greeks call themselves "Romios","Romiosini". These words are coming from the word Romeos and means the Cristian Greeks. After all the official language in Byzantioum was the Greek language because all the people in the empire speak greek. <p></p><i></i>
