I am enthusiastic about Roman history and have a great interest in assembling a soldier's kit. However, i am limited by my means as a college student so for the moment i am trying to find an affordable imperial helmet. Having browsed manufacturers, sellers, and various online stores, i have some sense of accuracies and inaccuracies in helmets but my knowledge is limited. Hence i am asking if the attached images depict an acceptably accurate helmet or if there are flaws which i should steer clear from.

Should anyone have any recommendations for accurate, affordable helmets, i would also greatly appreciate suggestions.

Thank you,

Nathan C.
Personally I would avoid it.

There are other options that are closer to artefactual finds that are affordable, from DSC and Deepeeka.
If you are in the states, try Rusty Myers, if in the UK A. Wink or even European suppliers like armae or Armillum.
Could you explain a couple of the features on this helmet which would steer you clear of it, in order that i know what to look for as i am surfing websites. And apologies but what does DSC stand for?

Thank you,

Nathan C.
Hi Nathan, I previously owned that helmet. It is sharp looking but for starters the neckguard is too low, it will rub on your shoulders, when wearing armor the neckguard will band right against it and moving your head will be hard..

Furthermore, the cheekguards are incorrectly shaped (but not horrible), I believe they are pretty long and will rub on your armor if you tilt you head down, the crest is rather high, the eyebrows are welded on (at least on my model), and the neckguard is rather wide combined with as I mentioned being low makes it hard to move. Also, the helmet is HEAVY, much heavier than it needs to be, I'm pretty strong and I enjoy a good workout, but it gets to you after wearing it for awhile
If you are in America, this is the CHEAPEST Deepeeka Gallic G you can get, it's where I got mine, shipped right from the warehouse in Vienna, VA. Took 3 days to arrive. Plus shipping is FREE!

Whose warehouse? Depeeka? Wonder if Sam Aggarwal is still with them.. Just down the street from me.
All I know is that all my Deepeeka products came from there. I assume Deepeeka, as I believe Gagan told me to contact a Sam Arwal there, but I think they stock other companies stuff, maybe I'm wrong?
Write and ask them, Rich. I'll bet they'd tell you their source.
I actually like th eGallic H and Gallic F better; for one because the Gallic-G has become sort of a re-enactorism, and the Gallic F because the neck guard is shorter and it weighs less.

Daniyal steelcrafts, yet another India-based company selling Roman re-enactment gear. Together with Al-hammd, AER and Deepeeka they seem to be the best suppliers of Roman gear, but always check what you buy in every case.
From Deepeeka my favorite is still the new Gallic F, although more and more helmets are getting there, but still they don't beet custom made helmets.
If you're looking for an imperial helmet you could go that route, or choose for a DSC or AER helmet. They have some imperial models as well.

Less weight on the neck bones is a good thing by day's end. Wink
A lot of the guys over here suggested drilling a small hole in the top of the helmet to vent heat, especially when wearing a crest. It's not accurate of course, but it seems practical. I can't wait to get my Deurne helmet when I have the money.
This thread should really be in the 'Re-enactment and Reconstruction' section.

Also, I agree I will move it.
This thread seems the most appropriate to ask. On his website, Rusty Myers claims that this a "great Dacian War helmet". While I trust Rusty's word, I don't trust certain mass-production companies. Could someone critique this helmet and determine its appropriateness for the Dacian War era.

Many Thanks,
Tyler
