even front of them big enemy army?

I am not sure I am understanding your question, but every single time a Roman army was fielded in Republican times, half of the men were not Romans but allies.
Rome fought Sparta, but never with Sparta as an ally if that's what you mean.
There was also Xanthippus, a Spartan mercenary who commanded Carthaginian troops in the First Punic War and inflicted a few defeats on the Romans, even capturing a consul ... but maybe that isn't what he is looking for either.
For whatever it's worth, this is what Wikipedia has to say:

Supposedly, following the disaster that befell the Roman imperial army at the Battle of Adrianople (378 CE), a Spartan militia phalanx met and defeated a force of raiding Visigoths in battle.[127]
...
The Romans did on a number of occasions field Spartan troops against the Parthians under the emperors Lucius Verus, Septimius Severus[5] and Caracalla.[131]
