Hi everyone,

I want to try and make a/multiple Roman wax tablet(s). Someone here who has experience, and, more important, someone who knows of books/articles in which archaeological finds of wax tablets are described? I'd need to know about type of wood, dimensions etc. (Preferably 1st century AD.)

I know that site, but IIRC only wooden writing tablets, with text written in ink, were found in Vindolanda, and I was searching for wax tablets. But I could be mistaken of course.

There are the frescoes from Pompeii showing the size, shape, and color of the wax. Several groups were found at the Inn of the Sulpicii and Lucius Caecilius Jucundus.

I just finished a crude one out of some poplar wood and spare nails I had laying around.
