At the Royal Academy as part of an exhibition of bronzes. Whilst I can't agree with the hyperbolic 'masterpiece' of the co-curator (it's just another sports helmet; there are dozens more as competent as this) it is good that people can get to see the wretched thing at last and be reminded of the whole sorry mess that is UK 'treasure' legislation.

It's standard in most Scottish castles (as I discovered this summer). Presumably to stop you knocking over the knick-knacks and baubles they have on display (them being artists and the like and you and I mere proles). IIRC the RA has decent cloakroom facilities which will take your baggage in (I went to the Byzantine Treasure thing many moons ago).

Ann thanks! I thought it meant there was no room in the cloakroom for back packs, when it mentioned suitcases.
I can't quite envisage anyone wanting to haul a suitcase into a museum! :-o

Actually it's not that strange, especially for tourist destination cities. For people who have to wait several hours for planes/trains to leave or for hotel rooms to become available, museums with cloakrooms are a great way to unload a burden for a while.
