I'm certain that this thread is propibally done somewhere else, but I cannot find it, so I will post it here. Did gladiators use brass or bronze equipment? I have seen brass helms from Deepeeka, but their accuracy is questionable with some equipment. Also, did centurions/standard bearers wear brass squamata? I'm a true tiro in roman reenactment, but my number one goal is to be 100% historicly accurate. Many thanks.
Though the gladiatorial helmets and greaves are classified as "bronze" due to their patina, there have not been any metallurgical analysis of these items.
So both cupric alloys would be feasible, and Junkelmann suggests a Tombak like metal, due to the yellow color used to depict these items in iconography.
