INTENTE!

Cohort V proudly announces the Second Annual Old Fort Parker Encampment.
January 28-29, AD2012, at Old Fort Parker, near Mexia TX.
Campers may arrive any time on Friday the 27th to set up camp and get ready for the activities. The public will have access to the camp from 10 to 5, both days. Be prepared to explain gear and answer questions. Some table top displays may be on hand, also.

This year's theme is "Preparing for the Siege". Saturday, the events will be broken into two parts, morning training and afternoon skills tests. Prizes awarded to winners.

Mess hall food available, or you can bring your own. If the burn ban is lifted by then, we may be allowed to cook in fireboxes raised off the ground. One unit standard per unit is welcomed. We will have an Honor Row to display them at the HQ tent. Bring your own means of standing it in the ground.

Events include: raising the siege tower, building a bridge, javelin throwing, marching drill, flint and steel firemaking, flat bread baking, storming the gates and more. All members of this group and their guests are welcome to join in and attend. Men, women, and children welcome. Unruly children will be sold as slaves to the Fort. Sorry, no pets.

From dawn Saturday until camp ends on Sunday, Roman period clothing is required. Some loaner gear may be available with advance notice. Non-Roman reenactors will serve as Roman auxilia. All non-period objects (ice chests, propane stoves, flashlights, etc.) are to be kept out of sight.

Registration is mandatory. No walk-ons.
Deadline for registration is Jan 15 for mess hall, Jan 22 for camp only.

Write [email protected] for general information, and [email protected] for registration packet.
Camp only $10 per person.
Camp and mess hall $20 per person.
A donation will be made to the Fort from registration fees collected.

You'll kick yourself later if you miss this camp.
BE THERE or BE QUADRA!
A few of us may stay over until Monday, Jan 30 to make it easier to take down the props (like the gate) and pack up the setup gear. Breaking camp when the public is visiting is in poor form. Any who attend are welcome to do the same. Sometimes the best part of a camp is when only a few remain. Good fellowship and fun.
Ave All........this is a great site and a perfect setting to gather and build up the Roman reenactor community in Texas. Don't forget , registration is MANDATORY, if you don't register, you cannot stay and participate. There are rules that must be followed, but made for the good of the event and the good of the site, which we, as guests, must repsect the site at all times.Look forward to seeing all of you there..........Salve, Antoninus
In planning out the props and sets for this camp, I have hit on a snag. In one event, a quaternion of soldiers carries a "battering ram" between them to smash down a gate. How wide do you think the gate must be for two men to enter, carrying scuta and a log? 5 feet? 6 feet?

Keep in mind they will have their scuta over their heads, since they will be under fire from very authentically deadly simulated faux pseudo-stones.
What would be the best day for an interested spectator to come and watch?

For Mike Boyd, I think our paths crossed years ago in the old Confederate Guard if you are orignally from Vcitoria.
Sounds like super fun!!! I wish I could do stuff like this :x

Hope to see pics?
Saturday would be best, as that's when the main competition will be. The schedule is not out, but probably from about noon. In the morning, we're doing training in firemaking, ropecraft, etc. In the afternoon, we'll see who was listening. No more info...don't want to tip our hand too early. Heh.
For registration, we now have a PayPal account for the Cohort. Simply PayPal to [email protected]. Please specify what the money is for (camp only, camp and mess hall, something else). Each camper must register separately.

Very soon, we will have an online registration form to fill in to make things more convenient for you.
Registration is mandatory - No walk-ons! Please submit separate forms for each individual planning to attend for tracking purposes.
Deadline for registration is Jan 15 for mess hall, Jan 22 for camp only.

Hi Randy.....yes it is I....hope you can make it. There are photos of the last Ft Parker event on the Events section here. Hope you are well and hope to see you out there. Mike
BTW, it's not as clear as we'd have liked. What should have been said in the "rules" is that all non-Roman people will be either Roman auxilia or civilians. This size of a camp can't have two opposing armies, so to speak. Sorry for anyone who was misled.

Finally, we've been added to their website.
We now have a home-school group and a newspaper reporter planning to attend. Still time to register.

The students will be folded into the soldiers, and participate in the training and competition.

Training for reenactors who may teach a class is Saturday, probably 9AM or so. Training for other competitors, the public participants and anybody else who's interested starts at 11AM, so you can get there that late if you want. Find travel information at oldfortparker.org

Are you still planning to come and see/join the good fun? A group of homeschoolers will be participating with us, so there's certainly room for one more. PM me for a cell phone number to get more specifics. Hope to see you there.
I thought Fort Parker was a Legio XIII event?
