Is anyone familiar with or has anyone read Michael Grants one volume History Of Rome, and if so -- Any thoughts?

Saw a copy in a used bookstore and considered picking it up.

Thanks.

Hi David!

Michael Grant is one of the best-konown populizers of roman history, although the info in his books is now sometimes outdated. His History of Rome was a very enjoyable reading experience for me, I have read it twice so far. The "flow" of the book is very good and I can sincerely recommend it. In fact it is the best general history of Rome (more modern books included) I have read so far, taking a chronological / narrative approach on it`s subject. In my opinion he is (was?) a very good writer, much better that many modern works...
Aloha Virilis!

Thanks for your comments. I enjoyed Grant's bio of Cleopatra and find it (along with Goldsworthy's book, Antony & Cleopatra) to be the best on the topic.

I have been looking for a good single volume history of Rome and this one will fill the bill.

Thanks again for responding.
