Is anyone familiar with the enigmatic Aletum pump station near St. Malo? Maybe it's because of Sunday but I cannot figure out why would you construct a pump station, unique in the ancient world, which delivers the water to a point 2 m high, and which needs to be worked by a number of men, when the sailors could have simply taken the fresh water by kneeling at the rock-cut basin and immerging their buckets into the fresh water? I mean what am I missing here?
