Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am not a person who is fond of "crusading" or agitation but I feel the following is serious:
"The rectangular Altar of the Twelve gods, enclosed in a peribolos wall (a wall that enclosed sacred areas), is near the north end of the Ancient Agora. It was regarded as the central point of Athens, and distances from the city were measured from here.
The original altar was built in 522 BC by Peisistratos and it was rebuilt in 425 BC to repair damage suffered in the Persian invasion of 480 BC. The altar was used as a central point for measuring road distances. From the 5th century BC, the altar became associated with the Goddess of Pity, probably because the enclosed area served as a place of asylum.
The remains suffered damage during the construction of the Piraeus railroad, and only one corner of the original structure now survives. "
The Greek government is planning to re-burry the site. But even under the hardshisps of our time there are those of us who believe that civilization and culture make us differ from animals.
