Hi All,
Just thought I would post a pic of my new Scutum. I didnt make it myself but Its the very first time I have painted a scutum .I bought the shield from a friend of mine Paul Harston of Roman Tours Ltd,its probably not the best paint job you've seen but Iam well chuffed with it.

Julius.
Good painting. Simple and elegant.

I like the wreath. I'm planning a similar design.

You know, I've looked at that compound curved brass channel and wondered exactly how to make it work. Tried using split copper tubing on a Republic shield, but was unsuccessful.
Simple , haha , not when you have no artistic talents at all . I am pleased with it though.

Thanks ,

Paul .
Well, you should be. It looks as good as most anybody's, and you have that "I did it myself" satisfaction. Can't buy that.
Hey, it's a scutum, congrats! I agree, it's a perfectly good paint job. Many of our modern ones suffer from being *too* meticulous and careful--it's hard to learn how to be a little fast and slap-dash about it. So don't worry at all about not being an artist.

Nice shield!

Matthew
Looks good to me! Nice work!
Thanks Guys ,
I appreciate what you have said , means alot.

Julius.
I agree - nice painting. I think it is at least as good as the painting on my own shield. So, well done.

David, check out Florentius' website. Making shield edging is one of quite a number of useful things he deals with on his site (although if I were you I would ignore the 'Julius' section).
