Dear friends, especially those from the U.S.,
does anybody know something about the fate of Ares Publishers, Inc. in Chicago? They still have a website at

www.arespublishers.com

but it's impossible to deliver an email order to them via the address given there.

Their books include Miller/DeVoto (eds.), Polybius and Pseudo-Hyginus. Fortification of the Roman Camp (first english translation of Ps.-Hyginus!), the third edition of Starr, The Roman Imperial Navy, a comparatively affordable reprint of Dessau, Inscriptiones Latinae Selectae, and many more interesting stuff.

I know that it's possible to obtain most of their books elsewhere, but if I could order directly from them, the prices would be much lower, even including p&p from the U.S. to Germany. Any ideas?

Greetings,
I'll give them a call tomorrow for you, and see what's up. Their website was last updated apparently in 1998.
Aulus, Legio XX.

Their phone number works, but they are in Colorado, not chicago. I left a voice mail to email me any updated instructions on ordering, or if they had had any problems lately. I'll let you know what they say.
Aulus, Legio XX.

Hi Martin; nope not a word or email or anything. Now that you remind me, I'll try a phone call tomorrow afternoon, but I wonder if they are really in business anymore.
Richard Campbell, Legio XX.

Thanks for your efforts, Rich! It would be a pity if they were out of business, because their books are (used to be) good and cheap...
