I know it was quite some time ago - but I thought I would post a link to some pictures I took at the Bolton Museum, Greater Manchester of some of the stunning textiles they hold in their store collection... there are plenty more, but i thought I'd share a glimpse with people ..

If anyone wants high res copies - I can send via email - but be warned, the files are about 2.5meg each

Neat !

I often forget how colorful these motives could be.

And I didn't know linens were sometimes interwoven with wool as we see in the tablecloth.

Thanks for linking these photos Smile

Ave Claire,

Thanks for the great photos, I think people forget how colorful and vibrant clothes were in our period. Do you remember the size of the tunic decoration pieces? From the photos they look huge. Also really like that sock fragment!! Big Grin

The size of the roundels are quite big - if I remember, at least 15cm accross- that was for the indigo dyed tunic. I have plenty more at home on my mac - I took about 60 in total, there are some really nice pieces with a wealth of variety, there is even part of an egyptian jacket with a linen back and wool pile to give it a 'shaggy' appearance (thats about as technical I can get with it as its such an unusual piece).
