Hello all,

I need some help with research.

My girlfriend is just starting up with reenactment (I've had a 10 year head start!) and we are looking at reconstructing the type of dress seen on the stone set up by the shipper 'Blussus' at Mainz, that is worn by his wife Menimane.

It seems to be an interesting mix of Roman and native, with some very diagnostic forms of brooch apparently known as 'distelfibeln'.

Good replicas are available from both Marcus Neidhardt and Holger Ratsdorf, so I am saving the pennies.

Has anyone here already reconstructed this? Or can anyone recommend any good books/articles? I can read German, which often helps...

Thanks in advance.

Thanks!

That was quick, I already found the first two articles from Augst earlier this morning and put them on the references/reviews thread!

The paper on Frauentrachten is especially useful.

I think I will also contact Rete Amicorum directly.

Are there any online references for the'distelfibeln' in either language?

Thanks again for the help.

Not much more, though.
I´d take the Distelfibel in bronze, not in brass. So short after Caesar brass still was not a very common material compared to bronze.
