Starting July 1st 2008 ebay.de has a new rule forbidding the sale of archaeological artefacts without an official document certifying that the object was legally obtained (Pedigree). Hooray!

Hopefully the other national ebay sites will follow. Big Grin

this indeed is very good news! Laudes for ebay.de!
Yay hooray! Now if they'll just offer free shipping to the US...
Indeed good news! Let's hope the rest of Ebay follows the German example
Ebay just got trounced for millions by a French court for selling counterfeit goods (£32m IIRC, paid to the original makers of the genuine goods). No doubt it's making them rethink their policy of seemingly hoping the goods will be sold before anything can be done about it (thus not cutting into their own profits). About time this happened, especially after the amount of times they've been notified of fakes by people here to seemingly little effect.
   Good, that will teach them!
Sometimes bad things do happen to those most deserving
Hip hip horay about time too Big Grin D

Money talks and bullshit walks! Big Grin D Good enough for me!
Well, all this trade will have to go underground, to more obscure places. As it was before. Really, Ebay helped a lot selling to the "dubious origin artifacts" (or awful fakes  ). Now it won´t be so easy, at least.

I understand that European rules and rulings are increasingly influencing international trade, but I would not count on it that other national eBay sites will immediately adopt this measure. But at least we now know that the German eBay is better than the others.
