Salve,

Does anyone have a picture of a reconstruction of the leather parma cover, found at Castleford, England?

I believe someone of the dutch Gemina has made a reconstruction, and perhaps others too. It's the one made out of different pieces of leather.

Thanks in advance.

Vale,
Falco
I'll send the article of the find to you on Monday Jef, It's on my work PC!but here is our reconstruction...

Thanks, Ade!
Nice stitch work! Is this oiled? If one were to make one of these, would a tabula with the legion name (like on a scutum cover) be out of place?

No, I don't think it would be out of place. I have a short description of the original find from Arma, Vol.1, Nr.2 1989. It was written by Carol Van Driel/Murray. She mentiones holes in the leather that might have belonged to missing appliques.

Very nice. What was the leather color choice based on?
I was going to say...could they have dyed the leather?
No doubt! Romans loved colour and clashing colours at that! (Just look at some of the wall fresco colour combinations!)

I see no reason why it could not be coloured leather.

Basically what was available at the time!
I agree with Peroni, colors of all sorts would probably be used. From frescos and such the Romans loved guady colors(by modern standards)...
