If they're not going to have to stand up to close inspection, just leave it alone.
I heated it a little and at least got it more yellow. The shape of the right is okay, but the finish isn't a Manning to say the least. I am quite sure they would have gotten dinged and scratched up with use though. Just lets say they have seen combat on more than one occassion!

I consider it a small victory even to get them to fit, shape correctly, and look half way finished. They are a challenge to say the least. Here is the right. I am working on the left, but it is giving me trouble. It looks similiar, but doesn't seem to fit quite right. Well, back to work!

They look great to me right now.
Thanks. Here is the left to date. It is ready for finish planishing, shaping, and sanding. It pulls a little to the inside though. The outer calf is tighter than the right leg, but the inner calf is still a little loose causing the greave to pull to the outside about 1/2" when it is worn. I will fix it when I planish though since the planishing loosens it up and I have to keep tightening it anyway.

That looks like a MAJOR victory to me, Chris!! Yeah, a hole like that sucks, especially after so much work, but I wouldn't mess with it much. I've seen original pieces with patches riveted on, very cleverly done and as subtle as possible, but hardly invisible. That's probably what I would have done. Though I may have just tried brass-colored solder!

If you've made greaves that actually fit your leg, you are leading the class by a mile! Fabulous job.

Khaire,

Matthew
They look GREAT! Well done,Chris. And I suspect that worn will look even nicer...I'm expecting you to post full kit photos, soon. And many! Big Grin You're about done, now, aren't you? Helmet,shield(s),thorax,greaves...

Thanks for the remarks.

Yes, I am almost done with a full kit. I am contemplating ripping the subarmour apart and shortening the pteryges, but then again, I may leave them as is.

The only thing left to do is the spear. I do have a spear with a bronze endcap that is correct, but the spear head is a bit off and the shaft is stained. Arms and Armor is making a spearhead that is accurate, but since it is a custom project, I won't get it for a few months. When I get it I am going to take the base off the other spear and make a new one unstained. The spear was probably the first item I ever bought so it is not as accurate as more current items. Soon to be rectified.
I'm sure it'll look great when you're done.
Okay. Finally DONE! I am so glad they are done. Here are some pics. I will take pics in a day or so with full kit. I need a well deserved rest from ancient Greece right now though!

Oh and you can see the 16 yards of linen in the background. One guess as to where that is going.....
