Is there any evidence the pelts worn by signfiers and cornicens included the rear legs?

Thanks
been wondering bout this myself. most impressions ive seen include them.

Well, you know, most bears have them, too.
The more pictures of Roman pelt-wearers I see the more convinced I become that the rear ends of the pelts are cut off and only the head, shoulders, front legs, and part of the back is worn. There's a photo in a post in this thread:

link from old RAT

that clearly shows this.
Huh. I was expecting more discussion of this point (no rear legs). Is everyone pretty much agreeing, or disagreeing?

Yeah, that's what I figure. 8)

(don't kill me)
Well I have a vauge recollection of a picture somewhere with the rear legs of the pelt tied around the waist.........but then it could just be the alzhiemers too...... :? ?
So that would be something like piggy back, only with a bear
...so could we call it, uh, bareback?

 8)

(I'm going home now, I hear my Mom calling me.)

Someone else mentioned that too in this thread:

I wish someone could remember were.
 demetrius!

Scaeva, thanks, I recall a picture in osprey, but at least someone else may have seen one too!

It's just means we are not cutting our pelts down no matter what.

Sekunda, Republican Roman Army p.35; statue possibly of the C4th AD usurper L Domitius Alexander. Followed in Plate D for standard-bearers.
That's the one.....thanks Duncan! Smile
Thanks for the book reference. I'll have to look that up. I still think that, at least in Trajan's time, the pelts weren't worn that way. I've attached a few gif files from Trajan's Column where I would have expected to see rear pelt legs, but don't. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find photographs of these sections of the column. BTW, I got these gifs from this site:
