I've read of legionaries being awarded gold torques for valour, but how and in what situations would such decorations be worn? I've seen figures on stelae wearing a pair of torques on the chest, hanging on a sling, but a single one could not be worn in this way - round the neck, then, Gallic-fashion? And would it be worn at all times, or only on special occassions?
