Technically the Greek "thronos" was used in antiquity for any high-backed chair with animal-clawed feet. It was a high status piece of furniture but didn't carry the specific meaning of 'formal seat of a ruler' that it has now.
They would have to come in groups of at least four to cater to the Roman taste for 'communal crapping.' Also, where does the 'sponge on a stick' fit?
