That is sad and shocking news. Like most of us, I only knew Paul from his posts and chats via P.M's, but even from that one could feel a genuine warmth.

My sincerest sympathies to his family and friends.

Paul was a member of the Vicus since it was founded. He came to practically all of our events and was a familiar face around our campfire.

He will be remembered by us for a number of reasons:

His indecently short tunics - he made quite of few ladies blush!
His ability to be one of the kids - he always made time for them.
His combat ability and steadying influence on the new guys in the ranks.
His baritone voice that could always be heard around the campfire.

To Paul reenactment was his job, his hobby and his life. He immersed himself in groups of all periods and consquently enjoyed the friendship of a wide variety of people.

The picture we've posted is one of Paul climbing the wall at the Lunt Roman Fort during our gladiatoral event there this year.

What we do in life echos in eternity and Paul certainly will.

This is sad news indeed.

Paul was a pleasure to know, a great loss to the world of re-enactment as well.

Aside from our weekend shows Paul worked in schools taking living history to many young minds, working with him doing so was a privilege.

I don't know if I could ever find anyone quite so keen to stab me hard in the faceplate during our gladiator events either, I will treasure the memory of the fights we performed together.

As members of the Vicus, me and my family have been lucky to have known Paul from when we started in reenactment. He gave us some great memories, from weekend events, taking me and my dad for an amazing week in Poland to the handful of shows i did for him this summer, the last one (my 1st school display) only a day or so before his accident.

One thing i'll remember is Paul having somehow got a large group of Polish school kids to join him in singing a rousing chorus of 'Horrible Children' to the tune of the ride of the valkyries, it still makes me laugh.
He was a great guy with a heart of gold and will be sorely missed by many.

My thoughts are with his family.

Just a couple of weeks ago at Paul's IAGO event, I was helping him with his panoply and he had me jiving in the beer tent, now he has passed away. It was a shock to hear of his accident and an even greater shock when I just checked my emails and heard of his passing.
He will be greatly missed, I speak for all of the Hoplite Association and those who knew him.
It was a jousting accident, he never regained conciousness. Paul's wife is sure, as are all of us who knew him, that this is how he would have wished it, doing what he loved, re-enacting the past.

I'd neither met him nor talked to him, but he sounds like a man we all wish we could be like. The world's always a poorer place without such people. God's grace upon him.

I do not know much about him, but I´ve been reading his excellent posts, we lost an great expert.

Just returned from my vacation to read this message. I too only knew Paul from RAT where he was a stable and dedicated member of our Greek section. I am very sorry to hear about his passing and my thoughts are with his friends and family. RAT is a poorer place without him.

I like most people have never met him, but his posts were always those of exactly the type of person I know that I would like if I ever did meet him. My dearest sympathies to his family in such a difficult and heart-wrenching time.

I am sad to hear this news, as he offered me good advice on a few subjects....I wish I had met him and can only offer my condolences to his family and friends!

May our gods be with him, where ever he may be!

I would like to know the reason of Paul accident is someone is kind ...

I will be sad to think that Paul was the only man interested or capable to join people of diferent nationalities in special to connect the new world with the old one for the sake of greek reenactment and now he is no loner with us...


I just hope I'm wrong....But Paul have a special place in history and in our hearths... he was the first man who open that bridge...

Hope so if themorpylae happen in 08 he be honored. I can say I'm a frut of his deeds and I will like to follow his steps.
