DOes anyone know about this boots n'all place? They offer $500 roundtrip flights from chicago to athens. If they're reliable, I'll be the happiest boy in the world.
One reason I wanted to visit Olympia is so I could see the bridge. Now I know how I can with skipping olympia. I could take the rest day to travel to rio and see the bridge. I'll still have more time that day, so I could visit some village or take a swim at itea.
I GOT THE PRICE DOWN TO $1530!!!!!! Big Grin D D shock: Confusedhock: Confusedhock: 500 for flight, 720 for the hotel in athens, 300 for delphi, and 130 for the day trip!
Now I just put a picture of the acropolis in my mom's new magazine, hopefully it will work. NOw I should tap into my TV during commercials...
Are there any horse trail ride places in athens or delphi? Basically, if my sister can't ride a horse on a trip, she's not interested. It feels my family rarely visits large cities on vacations, we've been to colorado, shennendoa, the smokies, and this summer were going to yellowstone. My parents keep telling me that I could go on a dig in college, but they don't really want to take me there. I wonder if there afraid of greece. THere's nothing wrong with it. It's just old marble buildings and greeks. I'm pretty desperate to visit. I'm already planning on living there, and I am willing to kill to get there. ANy ideas on convincing my parents? Jona, I could try your coffee table book strategy. That could generate interest with my parents. THen if my sister can ride horses, I might actually go.
how many days are you staying in Delphi?
And how many in your party?
Much though I would like to make a horse trail ride like the one mentioned above, I think it is impractical: Dan's sister will have seven days of fun, and our fellow-RAT will hardly see anything at all. We need something that lasts only one day. Maybe we can convince her that the trip from Marathon to Athens ought to be done on horseback?

I can not remember having seen a horse farm in Greece, ever. I'm a little pessimistic.

Well, I won't be riding with her, she'll probably be alone. My mom dosen't do that stuff, and my dad and I are alergic to horses. Yes, I think the seven day ride is VERY impractical. As for never seeing horse farms in greece, I never see them here. I'll be in delphi for four days, but she still seems very objected to visiting greece, even if there are horses. Oh well, everyone said the same thing when I wanted to got to space camp. Those trips showed me that anything's possible. However, greece is across the atlantic, not across four states.
Well, if my efforts are successful, if the dollar rises again, and if I still have interest, I'll be in Athens 1 year from now (I'd like to be there most of the time, rather than my quiet home in the Chicago suburbs.) Also, I found this place to stay in. I found out it is in my parents price range, and I can stay in the Acropolis View the night before I leave. It reminds me of where I'm going to stay in Yellowstone in a week, and where I stayed in Georgia (or was it tennessee?, but it was near the Ocoee) las summer. My last day of school is tommorrow, so I have a summer to plan, and generate interest with my parents. As for horses, isn't there a riding camp on some island, or my sister could go to one on the mainland, and do that, but she may actually want to see the ruins, so I probably could find riding places for her, and she could call on skype, but I may have to help her with the Greek words while calling. This brings up another subject, will everyone need to learn any Greek? I already know a lot, but something tells me my family wont learn any phrases, so I may have to teach them, and bring my Greek dictionary. I know almost everyone there knows english.
Quote:To be quite honest, I think you should try to convince your parents that a trip to another continent is not something to do cheaply. Better wait one additional year and have some extra money to spend than hurry and be disappointed.

This being said, your parents are right that money is an issue. Even though Greece is probably the cheapest country in the euro zone, the recent fall of the dollar makes it probably quite an investment.

I recently made a trip to Greece; if you want me to, I can send you an overview of our costs. Just drop me a p.m.

p.m sent

I'm planning to be in Greece myself next year. I've planned to travel in April, May or October. Probably going to spend 2 weeks there.
Quote:the road signs are in greek
No, they're in both Greek and Latin script. And confusing signs like the ones I post below, can be found everywhere.
I also like how some signs supposed to be guiding the lost tourist to the Acropolis point to the opposite direction! Tongue Like this one in Kerameikos.

By the way, the Zeus temple in Athens is a MUST SEE (check my picture below)!!!

There was one in St. Albans pointing 180 deg in the opposite direction
from the site it was meant to be directing people to!!

The 2 signs in greece probably direct you to the old highway and the new one...alternate routes, same destinations...
are the acropolis and agora 1 site together?
Quote:are the acropolis and agora 1 site together?
Almost: it's one big area, and you can walk from the Agora up to the Acropolis; still, they are clearly distinguished. The Acropolis is the hill, the Agora is northwest of the hill. On this satellite photo, you will recognize the Acropolis bottom right, and the Agora as the greenish area top left. (It's one ticket.)
