Avete omnes,
probably you know the famous classic ‚Lumberjack Song’ by Monty Python.
If not, here it is:
http://video.google.de/videoplay?docid= ... lumberjack
Suddenly the idea of making a short Roman re-enactment video ad stroke me at the weekend…
So I took that tune and made this new text:
Chorus solo:
I’m a legionary - I’m okay,
on guard all night and fight all day
Chorus Group:
He’s a legionary - he’s okay,
on guard all night and fights all day
Strophes:
Pilum thrown – I’m closing ranks,
and stab Gauls with my sword.
You won’t win many friends by that,
But it’s worth the effort.
(Chorus)
I’m marching 20 miles at least,
per day that’s Roman rule.
With 90 pounds equipment
So call me ‘Marius mule’.
(Chorus)
Arrived at eve’ we built new camp,
a wall and ditch I dig.
And our proud centurion,
motivates me with his stick.
(Chorus)
I earn a few denarii,
the money soon is spent.
But legion’s hospitality
provides an eight-men-tent.
(Chorus)
After 20 years of duty,
I’ll get a piece of land.
Start as a poor old farmer,
keep on struggling ‘til the end…
(Chorus)

Personally, I’d like to do an ad clip, but would need about 10 re-enactors for that. Could be a nice and funny way to feature Roman re-enactment. The ‘front man’ / solo singer could perform the matching duty action, and a choir of recruits getting more and more uncomfortable with the idea of such a glorious career. They might leave, stating: ‘I’m better looking for a well paid office job’…
At the end, a centurion might look into the camera lens, pointing at the viewer:
‘Be no lazy coward. Join Roman re-enactment. This very day!’
Any thought to realize such a non-commercial clip which could be spread on youtube and others ?
BTW: the text is free for non commercial use. Please include the copyright information when copying)
