Mounting a Crest on an Intercisa or Berkasovo Helm
#1
I have seen images before that this is possible (Adrian Goldsworthy the Complete Roman Army, Page 205, Top Left Image) as the English Heritage Group did it for their 5th-6th Century Roman Horse Archer Impression.

Any Help with this? It seems it was simply bolted through the ridge.

If you read Christian Miks article on LR helmet crests, you will see that there is a lot of archeological evidence to show that the Sheet/thin crests were mounted by folding over tabs cut out from the under side of the crest that were then inserted into the slits made on the ridge top. These tabs when folded over and then some also re-enforced with a metal washer underneath to make sure they did not break or pull back through the ridge. Other crests also appear to have been mounted with buckles as the Budapest helmet attests to.

Exactly. The latter method seems to be a bit more secure though, because of the narrow slits used for the former method. You would not like your crest to start flopping about. Plus, in both cases you need a fairly flat ridge to begin with - my berkasovo 9with even has the rivets on top) would be unsuitable for that.
