The Battle of Thermopylae in 3D
#1
Dear all,

I would like to draw your attention to the new interactive museum built near the site of Thermopylae. The museum (or more correctly, information centre) was built by the Municipality of Lamia and all the 3D/interactive platforms were developed by our team at the Foundation of the Hellenic World.

I'm attaching a link to a promotional video:

It certainly looks very impressive and anything to enhance the understanding of the site has to be a good thing.

(Just wish my modern Greek was better LOL!)

Congratulations. Hope it brings in more visitors for you.

The English version didn't play the video. Oh, well. It probably looks the same in whatever language.

Spoken Greek has a very pleasant sound to it. I can see why such lengthy poems were written in it.

That's an interesting Facebook site. As it happens I have a FB account so why not use it for something more meaningful? So it now joins my lengthy list of 'likes' Big Grin

I was also pleased to see a new visitor centre set up near Thermopylai. It's a pity it wasn't there when I went (quite a few years ago) but since I do plan to return I must check it out next time. It's really good to see this sort of thing happening.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention 8)

Hi guys,

Thanks for your kind words!

This promo video only features a small part of the 3D presentation of the battle. The rest can be seen on site at the museum. Unfortunately, we cannot offer more due to copyright reasons. But do make sure to pay a visit to the museum next time you're at Thermopylae!!

Btw, the Foundation of the Hellenic World ( http://www.fhw.gr ) has so far produced 3D reconstructions of various archaeological sites such as the Athenian Agora, Olympia, Priene, Miletus and so forth.

Cheers,
Ioannis

Great news that there's an information center at Thermopylae! I spent a few days there about ten years ago and the site had only the modern monument and statue of Leonidas to commemorate the battle. I hope I get a chance to return and see the museum.
