New Calcei HOW-TO page under construction

Quote:Gratias.

Oh by the way, I've included on the calcei page several pictures showing the process I employ for hobnailing. Of particular interest will be the before and after shots of the nail, as it comes from the factory and after filing. The filing is allot of work, but necessary to have any hope of getting a straight hobnail.

And again a wonderfull update. Laudes! And yeah, I know the work of altering the shafts of nails. Have done such a job on about 400 pieces already and even more to go for one of the projects I'm working on. Sad

Excellent tutorial Lee.

When I made my caligae, I dyed them a deep red color.

However, in making my calcei, I would like to have a different color. The natural oil finish is certainly very nice. Is there evidence of other colors for calcei.

Thanks

Red is the patrician or senatorial color of calcei. Black is also a possibility. For a common miles the natural oil induced brown I think would be more likely.
