Does anyone know of an archaeological report or similar about the later Roman (c.4th century) fortification and settlements at Nijmegen?
Jona Lendering's Livius page here describes a ditched enclosure on the Valkhof of 200x250m and two civilian settlements - other web sources suggest Frankish settlements nearby as well.
Do we know whether the fort shows any evidence of fortification type? I'm assuming a simple turf wall and pallisade. The circuit seems to be quite large for this era - rather bigger than Portchester on the Saxon Shore.
