Excellent tutorial Lee.
When I made my caligae, I dyed them a deep red color.
However, in making my calcei, I would like to have a different color. The natural oil finish is certainly very nice. Is there evidence of other colors for calcei.

Red is the patrician or senatorial color of calcei. Black is also a possibility. For a common miles the natural oil induced brown I think would be more likely.
