I have seen Ioannes and Iohannes. I think it was the name of an emperor in the 5th Century.

I suspect Ioannes was a Greek name.

The name John is from Hebrew (?????????? = YĆ“?anan) meannig God has pardonend. the first part of the word is the name of God "Jehovah" and second part "?anan" means pardonend.
For some reson in latin the word for the name John is "Ioannes", probably hails from a Greek heritage.
