After lurking for a few weeks, finally got around to joining. So, to answer some questions:
- where are you from?
The US, specifically West Virginia, though I currently reside in Colorado.
- how'd you become interested in Rome?
The worlds first professional military? What more is there to say? The Roman Legions have always interested me, much more so than the knights of later periods or the armies of the more modern age.
If I had to nail it down, it was when I first got into the LARP scene and loved the look of Lorica Segmentata. A few years later, Gladiator came out, and I decided to really get into it, joining the SCA and trying to join a reenactment group a few years later.
- why are you here?
To get more info for a late roman kit for reenactment and SCA use, as well as to check on good info for a 11th century Byzantine kit, also for reenactment and SCA use.
Plus, lots of good info on a variety of subjects.
- do you re-enact, are you a student, an academic professional, or..?
A little bit of everything (except the professional, I wish I could get paid fro this).
Started with various LARPs (Amtgard, Dagorhir, now Melee), joined the SCA at about the same time. Tried starting up a branch of a Roman Reenactment group in 2003, but couldnt get the interest needed and had to deal with some problems in my life, so that fell through. Wish I had known about it when I was in WV, would of been great to of hooked up with Matt Amt's Leg XX while I was close enough to.
Now, I am active in the SCA and wanting to branch out into a more authentic kit for that, as well as being able to participate and do demo's for roman reenactment.
