I came across this and nearly jumped for joy (if I was younger and not up for half of every night changing nappies I would have been hopping about like a hare which had won the lottery and been paid in carrots).

Lets hope other museums (and maybe governments) around the world take a lead from this and follow suit.

good news, but:
E-bay does not do enough to prevent fraudsters from selling their stuff..
of course detectorists worldwide will be subject to investigation, however I personally think that it is a drop of water on a red-hot plate...
If E-bay themselves cant even check all auctions, how will a small museum team be able to do it ?

I dare say Ebay could give them access to one of their own apps, or even create one, that will enable fast automatic searches on the site for certain keywords. It's a much better move to have more qualified staff looking at the results, especially given the access to more experts than Ebay could probably ever provide. The BM has a number of volunteers who I'm sure would be willing to help. We could help out if we wanted to, I'm sure.
