Aha, I remember those skins, they were very cool... I made my own hoplite skins (and give Perseus some armour too) so I might look for them sometime and take some screenies.

I made a hoplite in a note book.Just pen,but I played with adobe image ready and added some color.Sorry for the lines,I tried to extinguish them but did not pay much attention.Forgive the nudity.Most artists avoid complete nudity.I decided to take off his clothes as an imitation of the ancient art and as a try for more accuracy.I made a slide show.

As long as it is no Exhibitionism it´s natural........
And somewhere I´ve been reading about Psiloi fighting without Clothes (I do not know how to translate the word "Gymneten" from the German text).

Thanks.You won't believe it!Just now I was searching the word "gymnitis" but could not find the meanig.The gymnites were psiloi or light armed hoplites?
Xenophon in the anabasis uses the term and together with "euzonoi" it seems he's talkng for separated units.
Yes,well,nowadays we all are used to nudity more tha in the past,and I find it ridiculous to cover specific spots with irrelevant pieces of fabric,like the painters of the previous centuries.

Yes, I think so.
Wikipedia (I know, the content is not trustworthy sometimes) has a German article concerning Gymnitis (unfortunately not in English), there is mentioned:
"Gymnitis (original means nakeds, later something like light armed) Name of an ancient Greek branch of service. The characteristic mark was the lack of Armour."
That sounds like a subunit of the psiloi, or even unarmored Hoplites may be possible.
Hans Delbrück wrote in his "History of the Art of war" Vol. I that the Spartan poet Tyrtaios mentioned them at the end of his War-song No. 11.
I think they could have been looking like this.

This guy looks much like mine.Seomething like a hoplite shield,sword and helmet,and...no armour.Actually,together with a spear,this is all a hoplite needs to have,to be called a hoplite.I don't understand why so many people want to re-enact Romans :lol:

I liked the outcome,and i decided to make more,and in an "un-lined" paper.But inspiration does not come exactly when i want it(and in some strange way it comes when I have to study for exams :evil: )

Here's another set.This I made long ago in the bus,with pencil.It's one of the reasons the analogies are not quite right-too broad shoulders,too small shield etc.But I just began exploring Adobe Image Ready(I don't have Photoshop) and I decided to spend some hours experimenting...

I know what you mean by the timing of inspiration... all artists suffer from that...that is our fate.
