LOCHOS = company usually 100 men

LOCHAGOS = Captain

LOCHIAS = responcible for rest and shifts-sargent(NCO)

from LECHOME = lie down to rest

Some times elite companies were unusually strong like the Theban and Achaic companies
that had 300 men.


STICHOS = file
Spartans called it SYSKINIA from SKINI=tent.
SYSKINI= The men who share the same tent, 8 or 10 men,


STICHIARCHOS = file leader leader of 8 or 10 men.

MOIRA = section between 400 to 600 men.

Spartans called it MORA. The term is from Achaic dialect which
testifies to its antiquity.

ENOMOTIA = those who sworn together (to stick together)
3 SYSKINIAE = 24 men aproximately modern platoon.

ENOMOTARCHIS = leader of ENOMOTIA.

TAXIS = 256 to 512 men in the Hellenistic armies

TAXIARCHOS = leader of TAXIS

Stratigos = leader of the army=general- function of the king or elected general.
