Beheaded apparently after he did not divulge where he had hidden some artifacts. Barbarians.

The word execution implies judicial punishment under law. This was not execution, nor any of the killings they have perpetrated. It was murder, plain and simple, by a pack of ideologically insane, iconoclastic thugs, who are intent on extortion, enslavement and the destruction of anything which challenges their insane viewpoint.

Very well said Crispvs. This is a sad day, and it's a shame that these tyrants are allowed to walk the earth and continue on hurting, killing innocent people.

Rest in peace, Khaled al-Asaad, archaeologist and expert on Palmyra for over 50 years.

Having become aware of this barbarity and returning to the board after an extended absence, I find it regrettable that ISIS can't be taught the true meaning of the following:

'CIVIS ROMANVS SVM'

Anyone who knows me from Facebook, is aware of how I feel. The death of Khaled al-Asaad becomes one more unfortunate killing by the most barbaric thugs on the planet. They're going to Burn in Hell for everything they've done. Angry

The news about Palmyra is not good.
Government and IS have now been fighting for every inch in fierce battles for over a week, and the region seems to be severely damaged.

This is from an interview with an eyewitness:

Q: How were Palmyra’s ruins when you left?
I last visited them more than a month ago. IS destroyed a number of them with explosives, as you know. Russian and regime bombings have also struck them. Say goodbye to Palmyra’s ruins, they’ve been completely disfigured and destroyed.

Angry ... next stop for IS? The Wheel of Pain.

I am not so kindly disposed as you are, Alanus.

My vote would be for 'Damnatio ad Bestiam'.....

The Wheel of Pain comes from my novel, The Demon's Door Bolt. It's down on the Third Level of Hell, where murderers tread on the Wheel for eternity. The Third Level is just above the core magma, beyond burning hot, and it's not just Hell. It's the worst kind of Hell. That's exactly what IS deserves. Dodgy

Mea maxima culpa.
