Marching Boot for northern territories - Agathon - 04-03-2012 im a leatherworker looking for a pattern or example of a roman boot that would have been used in the colder climate territories. any help here would be greatly appreciated. thanks Re: Marching Boot for northern territories - jvrjenivs - 04-03-2012 You could look into the finds from Vindolanda (UK). Re: Marching Boot for northern territories - Robert Vermaat - 04-04-2012 Which period? Military or civilian? The finds from Deurne/The Netherlands (early 4th c.) show types also worn in the Mediterranean, meaning types are not restricted to colder/hotter climate zones. Re: Marching Boot for northern territories - Agathon - 04-04-2012 To be honest im not sure, i did look in to the uk excavations and they do have a feww examples, no i dont believe climate need be a factor. the importance i feel need be in how closed the boot is, as these will be made for an SCA heavy fighter and caligae simply arent adequate. Re: Marching Boot for northern territories - Vindex - 04-06-2012 Well I have pinched this picture from the Archaic Sandals thread as I am fascinated by the boot (label says 1st - 2nd C ) but so far I cannot find where the artefacts are displayed (and Giannis doesn't know either!) Anyone else know where this is? Re: Marching Boot for northern territories - Cavok - 04-06-2012 Looks like my old Flying boot!!
