Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Medicus matt - 01-12-2010 Don't think this has been mentioned already... [url:1aalmn34]http://www.hadrians-wall.org/page.aspx/Illuminating-Hadrian's-Wall[/url] Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-12-2010 Wonder if they need any Romans? Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - mcbishop - 01-12-2010 Quote:The plan is to create a point of light where all the milefortlets and turrets were located, with an additional point of light between each of them. Which makes me ask 'why?!' If a third of a mile was good enough for the Romans, why are intervening lights necessary? Doubtless 'art' will rear its ugly head in any official response to such a naive question. I can't help wondering if a similar thing will happen to the Limes Arabicus stunt where they put beacons on a series of Roman signal tower locations in Jordan and some of the locals thought they were being invaded! Let's not forget there was a plan (by one of those strange Anonymous characters who emerge in times of trouble) to (re)commission the frontier in the Elizabethan period to keep the Scots out. Still, a good idea, albeit refracted through a corporate lens darkly. Mike Bishop Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - D B Campbell - 01-12-2010 Quote:Still, a good idea, ...Which one? Lighting up the frontier, or keeping the Scots out? (Be careful how you answer! ) Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Medicus matt - 01-12-2010 Quote:Which makes me ask 'why?!' You grumpy man. Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - mcbishop - 01-12-2010 Quote:mcbishop:2xmreoq0 Wrote:Still, a good idea, ...Which one? Lighting up the frontier, or keeping the Scots out? (Be careful how you answer! ) Depends upon which side of the border I'm living at the time. Quote:Because it'll be pretty. I think by now I've earned the right to be VERY grumpy. Besides, Nero probably thought it would be 'pretty' when he (allegedly) did that torches thing with the Christians. Being pretty doesn't make it right. Now 'fun' I could accept. Mike Bishop Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Epictetus - 01-13-2010 I was more interested that "Emperor Hadrian" has a twitter account. hock: Quote:You can also... follow @EmperorHadrian on Twitter. Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - MARCvSVIBIvSMAvRINvS - 01-13-2010 What ? are they going to torch Christians along the entire length of Hadrian's wall ?? WOW!! Oh sorry, read wrong..... ) Nice initiative and must be a beautiful sight to see the wall illuminated... Hope there will be someone flying and filming above it when it happens.. M.VIB.M. Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - John Conyard - 02-16-2010 Comitatus seem to be doing it. I have no idea what we'll be doing! Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-16-2010 When is it again? I can't open the link anymore for some reason, and have forgotten when it is....April? May? March? Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Epictetus - 02-17-2010 It looks like they changed the URL. Here is the new one for this specific event: http://www.illuminatinghadrianswall.com It's Saturday, 13 March. I've never seen Hadrian's Wall, unfortunately. I would love to see this. Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-17-2010 Thanks David! I will be home for this, will no doubt make it an excuse to stop past on my way south with my equipment for Rome. Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Graham Sumner - 03-03-2010 Anyone going to this? Graham. Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - Gaius Julius Caesar - 03-03-2010 Still hoping to get there! Re: Illuminating Hadrian\'s Wall - ParthianBow - 03-03-2010 No, damn it! I so want to, but can't. Family visiting. |
