Re: New recruits - Praefectusclassis - 06-02-2006 Probably not. Remember we cleaned house last september? All old accounts without valid email addresses were deleted. Hi - Penfoldicus - 06-05-2006 Hi, My name is Richard Demas and I work and live in New York City. I have, since I can remember, had a fascination in Roman Military History. I would say the most apt description would be that i am roman military history enthusiast. I have an undergrad degree in History and Philosophy. I am here to meet others with similar interests and discuss related topics. Rich Re: New recruits - Robert Vermaat - 06-05-2006 Hi Rich, Welcome to RAT. May you have splendid discussions here. Re: New recruits - Praefectusclassis - 06-05-2006 Welcome to RAT Rich! Re: New recruits - Penfoldicus - 06-05-2006 Thanks! Re: New recruits - Chuck Russell - 06-05-2006 welcome Rich, there are several NY area roman groups. check out the groups section at www.larp.com/legioxx Welcome - Primitivus - 06-06-2006 Glad to have you join us, Rich. This is a great place for those of us with undergrad degrees in history to learn from the true experts. I've learned much here during my brief membership. great site - sicarii sam - 06-11-2006 I actually was on here along time ago when it first started up. Ive been back sporadically over the last 5 years ( I think). Nice to see the progress and community it has grown into. Im a teacher( not full time yet) and I am a professional Mixed Martial Arts instructor/personal trainer. www.myspace.com/risingphoenixmma My fascination with ancient history started with my first viewing of indiana jones. Never been the same sense. Im an all around military buff but I have a BA in ancient history. The cirriculum at my college was mainly geared towards Greek stuff but my interest has always been Rome and its military and politics. I see the high quality of knowledge on this board and often look at it to find answers to questions I come across. My main interest is the jewish wars. I wrote my senior thesis on this subject. When re reading it, it was a very rudimentary thing and almost embarassing. I got an A anyway. My real learning began after college when I began to pursue my interests and specialize. Ancient warefare is incredible to me. No nintendo like weapons systems. man against man. As a former professional fighter, I love delving into the Mind of the ancient warrior. You guys will have to forgive my sometimes haphazard posts and Im always open to correction. One thing is for sure, ancient rome and its army are a lifetime study. This is by far the best site on the net to discuss these things. I feel like I was born a couple milleniums too late. Im sure I would have joined the legions and probably died on a lonely frontier but I guarantee their would have been a few barbarians going with me. Glad to be here. |
