Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Mummius - 01-23-2008 Quote:15 Soldiers? Well, at most of the events we only get about 10 of them too. There are always some that can't make it... But like I said, it's always nice to join with another group. We had a great time with the RCO in Xanten last year. Being in a large formation gives a special feeling. I'm looking forward to the event at Marle this June. I think about 150-200 soldiers will be there and acting as a single unit, all drilling together. It must be very cool (and challenging) to form a testudo with 100+ soldiers. I wonder if the rear ranks will hear the commands etc... Vale, Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-24-2008 It can be difficult to hear commands in a smaller group, so I can imagine there will be some chaos ensuing  But a ggreat accomplishment once the problems are ironed out and things start to gel! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - maius - 01-24-2008 Jef, the upcomming event at Marle in June sounds outstanding! That many reenactors getting togeather at one time will be awesome! It would be great if you could take some pictures and post them here after the event. Maius/Bill Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Caballo - 01-24-2008 I've drilled in a group of around 150 on a windswept Yorkshire moor (the Tetleys Bitter Romans advert, with the oh-so authentic kit... ). You hear next to nothing of voice commands........flags you can follow, and if we had had them, a bucina may have worked...... Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Iulius Chattus - 01-24-2008 My group was in Xanten, too. I scream very, very loud, that`s one of the reasons why i`m the optio (one of the others is the fact, that i looked better than most of us ) Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Mummius - 01-24-2008 Here's a link to the festival at Marle in June (I hope you understand some French): http://www.museedestempsbarbares.fr/fr/ ... vante.html I would guess voice commands were repeated by the cornicen and with the signum. And perhaps the commands were passed along the the lines by certain persons? Vale, Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Iulius Chattus - 01-24-2008 @ Jef. Yeah, we make it in the same way. Our Centurio give the commands and i, marching on the left side, pass the commands along the lines. In the end of may, my group is on a event in Lyon, with lots of romans. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 01-24-2008 OK guys, back to topic now, just images of your Roman kit here. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Titus Tiberius Crispus - 01-27-2008 First look at my impression. Still working the bugs out. Your comments are welcome. Gratias! The bowl is to small. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Titus Tiberius Crispus - 01-27-2008 Thanks Marcus for your kind words and yes the bowl is much too small!!!! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Mummius - 01-27-2008 Quote:Thanks Marcus for your kind words and yes the bowl is much too small!!!! Both in length and in width or only in length? For most of the people I know the bowl of deepeeka helmets is not long enough, but too wide. Vale, Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Iulius Chattus - 01-27-2008 Here some more pictures from me: http://www.vindeliker-kohorte.de/Verans ... /Xan/2.jpg http://www.vindeliker-kohorte.de/Verans ... Course, the snow makes it look mighty cold out. Where did you get your bracae at? Mike Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Iulius Chattus - 01-27-2008 We are jumped on the sides of the bowl, so they go oval and the bowl gets a little bit longer. Yeah, it looks pretty cold! |
