Demetrius - 05-17-2009 Those are some pretty rugged looking choppers! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Mummius - 05-18-2009 Legio XI CPF (Belgium) was in Mosa Trajectum (Maastricht the city is called today) this weekend. Some bad weather, some good. Our centurio couldn't make it so I acted as the commanding optio. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Mummius - 05-18-2009 The lion was kindly loaned to us as a replacement for my bearskin by Paul Karremans from Legio X Gemina. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - jvrjenivs - 05-18-2009 Nice pictures! Do we have evidence of optiones wearing greaves? Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - M. CVRIVS ALEXANDER - 05-18-2009 Looking good! I am pleased to see that my design of the LEG XI CPF tabula ansata for the tegimen is used by our brothers in Belgium! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Mummius - 05-18-2009 Quote:Nice pictures! Do we have evidence of optiones wearing greaves? Thanks. Short greaves like this could be worn by soldiers of the lower ranks so I don't think it's a problem for an optio. Knee length greaves (the greek style, like a centurio wears) would be another matter. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Mummius - 05-18-2009 Quote:Looking good! Yes, we are very grateful to you for that. I'm really glad that we have an original piece to base ourself on. That preserved tabula ansata from Vindonissa is one of the reasons we choose this legion. Vale, Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - M. CVRIVS ALEXANDER - 05-18-2009 Quote:Yes, we are very grateful to you for that. I'm really glad that we have an original piece to base ourself on. That preserved tabula ansata from Vindonissa is one of the reasons we choose this legion. I actually combined two different originals for my design that you used (included in the pic below) - we are exceptionally fortunate to have them! I primarily used the design of the top piece, but since its top part is missing, I complimented it from the other piece (although it still can be seen from the remains of the missing top part that it had a design different from the one I used for my version). |
